My name is Kelly and I have a quick question I was hoping you could help me find an answer to. I live in the United States and my husband is planning on attending a university in Jerusalem with his GI Bill. I will be home schooling our children while he is in school but I wish to study Hebrew somewhere at the same time. Is it possible for me, and US citizen whose first language is English, to study Hebrew and become fluent in both modern and biblical while we live there? I have already studied one year of modern Hebrew at American Jewish University in Los Angeles. Thank you for any information.

Hebrew studies in Israel
Hello Kelly,
There are a few schools and institutions in Israel which offer different Hebrew courses to international students with special benefits for those who plan on doing Alya in the future, among those institutions: Ulpan Kibbutzim that takes place in no less than 8 different kibbutzim in Israel, The Hebrew University, Levinsky College and more. Some of the programs offer housing and some help you find a housing solution so don't worry about that. Some of the programs are in Tel Aviv, some in other place but never too far sa we have a relatively small country.
Each one of those institutions offers a different program so I've attached a link at the end of my message to an article about the different programs you can choose from and i advise you to contact those that are relevant to you directly to get all the information you need about the admission, fees and more.
Regarding the biblical Hebrew course - The Hebrew University of Jerusalem offers a Biblical Hebrew program for graduate students in 2 different levels: Intermediate and Advanced. Each level takes one year so if you need to start from the first one and graduate both it will take you 2 full years. In order to get in to the program candidates must present a bachelor's degree with a 3.2 grade-point average or the equivalent.
I advise you to contact the university directly to get more information about the course, admission and more.
