Documentary Cinema MFA at Tel Aviv University (Graduate Degree)
The M.F.A degree in Film and Television at Tel Aviv University includes an international program in documentary filmmaking. This track is taught entirely in English and is suitable for both Israeli and international students from around the world, who wish to broaden their knowedge and creative skills.
The program is conducted at TAU’s Tisch Film and Television School, which promotes proficiency in film and television production, and has trained many prominent Israeli filmmakers and film scholars throughout the years.
Study program
This program allows graduates to gain comprehensive training in visual documentary production. It encompasses both theoretical and practical aspects of documentary filmmaking. Students can broaden their skillset in relevant fields such as documentary directing, screen writing, producing, editing, and research.
In addition, they gain hands-on experience through various workshops that expose them to practical skills needed in the production process. This program also includes visiting artist workshops with directors from abroad. During their final semester, students produce a film or series in the topic of their choice.

Admissions
Admission requirements include:
- A bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 and above (80 on a scale of 100).
- Official transcripts of post-secondary education, and English translations of these transcripts.
- A letter of recommendation.
- A personal essay (up to 600 words) describing the reasons for pursuing this graduate degree and an idea for a documentary film or series.
- A link to a video of previous work.
- Personal CV (professional resume).
- English proficiency – non-English speakers must provide proof of their English proficiency via the relevant exams.
Academic diploma
Graduates are awarded an M.F.A. degree in Film and Television – Directing and Production from Tel Aviv University.
